We have changed our company name (or rather "sold" off the old name) and would like to change our domino domain name.
I have looked at various articles, and best I can tell the simplest way to do this is to migrate to a new server with a new domain name. I’m happy to rename our current domain, but this looks even harder from what I have read.
I’m currently testing this before doing it on the live server, but have little experience with this side of things, and keep hitting road blocks which are slowly driving me insane.
The most relevant article I have seen, which I am looking at is:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&context=SSKTVH&context=SSKTK9&context=SSKTKX&context=SSKTM2&context=SSKTMJ&context=SSKTPQ&context=SSKTPA&context=SS5LUA&context=SSMT72&context=SSKTR9&context=SSKU24&context=SSKTTW&context=SSKTUB&context=SSKTWB&context=SSKTWP&context=SSKTX4&context=SSKTXQ&context=SSKTYF&context=SSYSVG&context=SSKTZ5&context=SSKTZF&context=SSZHFR&context=SS6JT7&context=SS6PC5&context=SS6JUL&context=SS6JVW&context=SSFLMV&context=SSKTL5&q1=1086417&uid=swg21086417&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en+en
So far I have:
Created a new server and domain (lets call it server/new) and cross-certified it with the old domain (call it server/old). I have done this using the "cross-certify" option in the Domino Administrator from both sides (ie: from old certified /new with /old and vice-versa on server/new).
The servers can communicate, and a "trace server/old" is showing a successful connection (and in the other direction).
I can rename a user (as per the above article) using "Request move to new certifier...", approve the move in the administration request database, however when I run the command "tell adminp process new" I keep getting the error:
2009/04/19 13:29:36 Error processing certificate created by /NEW for User Name/NEW: The signature on the certificate was found to be invalid. Check the log file for details.
2009/04/19 13:29:36 Error processing certificate created by /NEW for User Name/NEW: The signature on the certificate was found to be invalid. Check the log file for details.
2009/04/19 13:29:36 Admin Process: Received the following error performing a Initiate Rename in Domino Directory request on User Name/OLD (Path: names.nsf): The signature on the certificate was found to be invalid. Check the log file for details.
After much googling and trying various ideas, I have not been able to get past this one. So in order to keep testing, I manually certified the user.id file (from Configuration > Certification > Certify...), this appeared to also update the entry in names.nsf with the new user name (ie: the username is now User Name/NEW). However I am now stuck again as I don’t know how to transfer the user to the new server. Using "Move to another server..." does not allow me to select the new server (probably because it is a different domain), and most things I have seen suggest that manually moving a user is a very bad idea.
So my questions are:
- What is the best way to rename a domain (no problem using several servers for the migration, or just renaming the current domain).
- Are there any references that someone can point me to that are useful for this.
- Should I be doing this from 8.5 (the server/OLD was actually 7, but for testing we have upgraded to 8.5 – which worked fine – as we plan to go to this.
If you need any more info, or if I am doing something dumb - any feed back you can give me, or info I can give you, would really be appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance.
